A New Age
« Thread started on: Feb 27th, 2009, 5:35pm » |

Things had changed since Paris and Jagaer had had their children. Now that the beautiful little girls were grown into teenagers in highschool, vampires were strongly settled everywhere around the world where democracy was settled. They attended schools as well, at night, and the halves attended school during the day.
Other non-humans had rights, though they were shakier, and they sent their children to schools as well. There was still a great amount of distrust between vampires and humans, but most had managed to put it aside in order to do business, or pleasure.
Blood Square, home to Tam's infamous club, had changed into a swany and up-scale place that was a tourist trap, vampires doing tricks for a penny. It was a mysticla place with twiting alleys, secrets hidden behind every door, inhabited by many vampires.
Tam had pursued a relationship with Amber but it had been on and off, and eventually, as he moved to do business in Europe, off. He was back now, though, young as ever. He still looked a few days over twenty three.
Jagaer lived in their large plantation house with his wife and daughters, their relationship loving but still stormy, his demands to be man of the house straining their relationship.
Risha had not aged a day, in appearance, though she had given up her exciting job as a DJ to marry. Her husband was a well-respected businessman, known for his ruthless business tactics. They lived in the same neighborhood as Jagaer, and, having had children out of wedlock, her child attended the same grade as Jagaer's.
Blood Square was celebrating today, though, just because. It was Carnivale, where the vampires turned out dressed to the nines, putting on spectacular shows. Risha came out, standing alone on a street corner to watch. She wore a simple red sundress, the mild breeze whipping her long, dark hair around her face, blue eyes bright as she smiled. She still looked the same as when she had attempted a relationship with Gabriel.
Jagaer, meanwhile, was fitting his coat and buttoning it, "Paris!" He called out, "Are you ready to go? And what about the kids?" He adjusted his cravate, wondering whether they were dressed to go to the party, yet.
Sho had left his relationship with a husband, moved to Japan, married a woman, and following Gabriel's footsteps, pursued a career in law that kept him busy. He was one of the best-known public defenders there, known for defending those who could not defend themselves.
Tam was finally back from Europe, hopefully to stay. He wanted to find Amber, see what she had been doing. In his fashionable black suit, with a dashing red cloak and feathered, wide-brimmed French hat that gave him a dashing likeness to Zorro, he looked the exact same, lighting a cigarette, smoking.

Paris stood in her children's room, curling Isabella's hair, glancing over at Lucian, who was dressed in a rather nice pair of slacks and a button down shirt, his blond hair dangling in his eyes. Isabella wore a black dress with white polka dots, a younger, spitting image of Paris except with Jagaer's dark hair instead of Paris's golden curls. She stood in a pair of blood red high heels and a white sundress, looking beautiful and as perfect as ever. "We're almost ready!" Paris called back to Jagaer as she scooped up the last little bit of Isabella's hair that she had to curl, checking her gold watch.
Amber stood leaning against a wall with Gabriel and Travis nearby; she looked around Blood Square, hanging off the arm of a rather handsome man, but he was no Tam by any means. A cigarette dangled between her fingers and she sighed a bit, an unhappy look in her eyes.
"I don't see why you dragged us all the way out here for this." Gabriel muttered, his arm around a pretty girl's shoulders who was really all looks and no brains. None of them had changed much, but the boys looked older and maybe a little more rugged, and definitely, if possible, handsomer.

Jagaer waited for his teenaged children to come down, then looked up at his vampiric lover, smiling and holding his arms out to Paris, giving her a quick kiss on the lips before leading her outside. He unlocked the car. The vintage white Cadillac was a beautiful ride into Blood Square, past the rivers and dancing people, letting a valet take it when they got there.
Tam looked around, and then...saw her. He looked at her and took her in, slowly, tossing his hat into the hands of an attendant as he hopped onto one of the flowery, feathery floats, decorated by dancing and singing vampires. "I need a volunteer! A lovely lady! Oh, my, oh my! That one, right there! No, no. Not you, not you. That one!" He gestured, reaching out for Amber, a wicked but bright smile on his face.
Risha hadn't expected to see the one man she had ever really desired. Especially not with Travis an Amber. She had always liked them but time had pulled them apart. Risha, lovely white sundress caught momentarily in the wind, took a hesitant step forwards. Uncertain as to whether saying hello would be welcome. Tam, though, was already reaching for Amber. Using the distraction to muster her courage, she tapped Gabriel quickly, softly on the shoulder. Her hands were white, tiny as ever, and she peered around Gabriel's shoulder to offer a bright smile to Travis. She hadn't aged a day, still looking barely of drinking age.
"Gabriel?" She asked, still shorter than him even in her heels, "Gabriel Dante? I...I don't know if you still remember me. It's Risha."

Paris got out of the car and looked around, taking Jagaer's hand. "Don't stray too far," she said to her kids, knowing that they were teenagers but it didn't matter to her, she was always worried about their safety. She tossed her long curls over her shoulder and smiled at Jagaer, always so happy to be close to him. Even after so much time had passed, she was still incredibly in love with him. She was happy with her life, the years had passed without any problems, and her children were growing up beautifully.
Amber watched the performers around her and her eyes fell on Tam, freezing for a moment. she hadn't seen him in so long--he had left without much warning. He had broken her heart, even though she would never admit that to anyone. She was with Ryan simply to fill the void Tam had left. She saw him now on the float, reaching for her and her blood seemed to turn to ice in her veins, stunned to see him in front of her now, not knowing why he was beckoning her after all this time.
"I think he wants you to go up there," Ryan said with a smile, having no idea who Tam was or what Amber's history with him was.
"I don't want to go." She said, taking a step back but Ryan pushed her forward towards Tam, making her take his hand and step onto the float.
Gabriel turned, about as stunned at Amber was to see Tam, seeing Risha in front of him. He had definitely liked her, and had felt personally slighted that she had basically shut him out for the business man she had married. He was not cold toward her, however, but the girl he was with seemed to sense something amiss and smirked at her, holding out her hand,
"I'm Pedaline," She said, holding onto Gabriel protectively, clearly showing that she and Gabriel were together, and no ex-girlfriend, or at least who she assumed was an ex, was going to come between them.
((be proud of me. i'm very tipsy and another guy is humping my boyfriend. wow.))

Jagaer smiled, leading them through the crowd, holding Paris' hand tightly in his own. He got them a place on the edge of the street, near the floats, allowing them some space to actually see what was going on. "Look, look! There's Uncle Tam." Tam was a godfather to the chilren, though on and off as far as his actual presence in their lives.
Tam could see that distrust in Amber's eyes and he grabbed her hand before she could stop him, pulling her up onto the float with him, the party continuing as it had before. He pulled her against his chest, taking a few steps back, essentially hiding them from the crowds behind the swirling skirts and the bursts of confetti guns.
"Hello, Amber." He hadn't aged a day, and looked at her, seeing that she had aged quite gracefully.
Risha held out a small, cold whtie han to Pedaline, offering her a slight smile that didn't quite reach her eyes. "Hello, Pedaline." She looked at Gabriel, blinking, still a bit surprise to see him. "Wow. You've certainly grown. You look...nice." She smiled, offering another one of those good-natured laughs she had always had. "How've you been?"

Paris watched Tam for a moment and saw Amber approaching him, sighing softly. Only Paris knew how Amber had felt when Tam had decided to leave for Europe, leaving her behind. One and off relationships were one thing, but just bailing for another country was something that neither of them understood. Isabella was playing with one of her curls and sighed a bit, looking a little bored, while Lucian looked absolutely thrilled to be there.
Amber lowered her eyes. Even with a few more years on her face, she was still beautiful. Her hair was longer now, hanging halfway down her back in gentle waves. "I didn't know you were back," She said, not looking at his perfect face, looking the same now as he always had, something Amber was just a little jealous of. She tried to pull her hand from his, not being able to stand being so close to him, knowing he would just leave again.
Gabriel watched her, shifted a bit, and wrapped his arms around Pedaline, sensing that she was very uncomfortable in Risha's presence. Risha was perfect and always had been, and everyone knew it just by looking at her. "I've been good. Working full time at the lawfirm as a partner now, soon to be the head of our firm actually." He said, shrugging a shoulder as he watched her, wondering what he had done wrong, wondering how he had lost her. She was the one that had gotten away and he didn't know why.

Jagaer patted Lucian's shoulder, pointing out various things, obviously enjoying showing his son everything while not paying attention to the fact that Isabella could be bored. Jagaer reached out, wrapping an arm around Paris, drawing her close against his side and grinning. "Isn't it a wonderful parade?"
Tam tilted her head up, a hand under her chin, "I'm back. I'm going to stay here, too. I finished up what business I had in Europe." He looked at her, "What are you doing tonight? I do hope that that human whelp you're with hasn't made plans with you for the evening..."
"Wow. You've certainly moved up in the ranks at your firm...that's great. I'm really happy for you." She smiled, and it looked genuine, tucking some dark hair behind her ears. "What about you, Travis? How've you been, what've you been doing with yourself?" She and Travis had bene friends as well, though a few months after meeting her current husband, Risha had essentially dropped off the face of the earth.

Paris nodded a bit, smiling, "Yes, it's very nice." She said and looked at her daughter. She kissed Jagaer on the cheek and then went to her daughter's side, wrapping her arms around her, "Don't be so sullen, Isabella. Let's take a talk." She offered, telling Jagaer they'd be back soon, and she took her daughter's arm, leading her around. They could have passed for sisters instead of mother and daughter given the fact that Paris still looked 21.
"i'm bored in general mom...this town is too small for me."
Amber frowned at him as he raised her chin to look at him, trying not to be sucked in by him. "That human whelp is my fiance..." She said softly, biting her lip a bit, trying to gauge his reaction to her words.
Travis tossed her a glance, then looked back at the parade, shrugging a shoulder as he took a drag from his cigarette, ever the chain smoker. "Things are fine as usual." He said to her, actually extremely surprised to see her at all, let alone be talking to her, and he knew Gabriel felt the same way. She had just...disappeared without much warning.

Jagaer looked up at the floats and grinned, baring his fangs in response to the festivities, glad to be able to do it in public for once in his life. He was just generally enjoying the party, and the dancing, telling Lucian to scuttle along as he'd been told to do, so that daddy could go enjoy the parade on his own. Jagaer slipped through the crowds to stand beside Tam, having missed the Master of the City, his creator.
Tam ignored Jagaer, looking at Amber, tilting his head. Wincing. "Fiance? Wow..." He murmured, looking up at the sky so that his turquoise eyes gleamed under the net of dark hair, "I forgot how long I had been gone. I never really picked you for the type to settle down with...well, him. I suppose you have two children, a golden retriever, and a white picket fence as well?"
Risha gave him a small smile and nodded, turning back to the parade. A few moments later a tall boy walked up. His hair was dark, cut short and close, chiseled features nothing like his mother's. He was very strong, and the only thing that hinted he would be Risha's son were the blazing blue eyes. "Oh, uhm...Gabriel, this is my son. Quinn. He's a senior, now."
Quinn nodded, and tugged his mother's arm gently, "Dad wants you."
Risha looked over her shoulder at Gabriel, and gave him a small smile again, still so attracted to him. It had hurt to leave him, and even now, it hurt to see him standing before her with another woman. But she had gotten pregnant, and that was that. "Alright. Maybe I'll see you around sometime, Gabriel. I'd...well, if you're ever free, I'd love to do coffee. Catch up. If you'd like, give me a call...my number hasn't changed."
It left him an easy way to back out of it, just by not calling.

"There's not much that can be done right now, love. You're still in school. If you want, I'll take you on vacation though. Anywhere you want, just say the word." Paris looked around, looking absolutely lovely in the midst of the crowd, perfect in every way.
"Really? Wont dad be mad about that?"
"Why would he be?" Paris shrugged a bit and hugged Isabella closer as they walked, "He'd do anything for you and Lucian, and a little trip is nothing that he should be concerned about."
Amber frowned at him again, shaking her head, "Of course not. I don't have any children or a dog, thanks. Does it really matter to you anyways? I haven't heard from you in so long, I didn't think you even cared about me anymore." She couldn't keep the pain out of her eyes. deep down she wished he would find a way to break up their engagement; there was no one she wanted to be with more than Tam. He was everything she wanted but couldn't say it. He broke her heart once, she didn't want to give him that power again.
Gabriel gave Quinn a firm handshake, a part of him feeling like it was dying inside when he realized that it was Risha's son. A son she had with another man. He nodded a bit and glanced at Pedaline, knowing she wouldn't want him to call Risha. and really, what was the point? she was married, had a family... it wasn't Gabriel's place to come between them. she had given him up a long time ago; she had chosen someone else. "It was nice seeing you, Rish..." He said softly, pained to see her go again.

Jagaer couldn't believe this. Tam had come back for Amber? After all of this time? He had thought that Tam would stay in Europe, but...he knew Tam, and knew the look. He had come back, just so he could see Amber again. Snorting, he turned away and looked off the float. At least Risha had some sense and settled down. She at least - "Damnit!" She was talking to Gabriel, and his eyes narrowed, realizing that this fair had brought together more than just vampires and humans.
Risha had to swallow hard to keep her voice steady, "Yeah," She murmured, "It was great running into you, Gabe." Her son looked at Gabriel for a moment. Risha barely came up to the boy's shoulder, and stood dwarfed by him. As Quinn took her hand and led her through the crowd back towards her husband, she looked over her shoulder once more, searching for Gabriel, unable not to look at him. She almost, almost, wanted to run back to him. But what was the point, now?

Amber sighed softly and shook her head a bit, "I can probably get away for a few hours," wincing a bit as she said it, knowing it was a terrible idea, wondering if it would end like it had before, leaving her waiting alone at a restaurant only to find out he had gone to europe. She hated how he could make her do anything he wanted, it made her feel weak, but she couldn't help it.
Gabriel watched her leave until she disappeared in the crowd and Pedaline snapped her fingers in front of his face, clearly unhappy with his attention set elsewhere, especially on a girl as beautiful as Risha.

Tam grinned, and took her hand, "What do you want to eat? I'm sure your hungry. Name it, and I'll take you there. What about that little Italian restaurant that we used to go to?" He was grinning as he said it, excited to see his girl. His girl. Amber was his as much as this city was and no fiance named Ryan was going to stop him from keeping what was his.
Risha looked back at Gabriel for a few moments and then sighed, telling Quinn to bugger off when he asked her how she knew him, following him back to her husband. James wrapped an arm around her waist, kissing her cheek. Risha looked out to the crowd again and thought. She couldn't possibly try and see Gabriel again. Could she?

Amber's stomach flopped. She hadn't eaten at that restaurant since he left; she shook her head a bit, "let's go somewhere else..." she said, her voice strained. "there's a new restaurant down the road, why don't we go there?" Her eyes flicked away from his face, her stomach flip-flopping repeatedly and she sighed.
Gabriel held Pedaline like she wanted and ended up taking her home, but didn't want to touch her like she wanted him to. his mind was still on the girl he'd lost and wanted back, but knew he wouldn't.

Tam wrapped a strong arm around her waist and nodded, leading her through the crowds, to the less crowded sections of the street. Down to a restaurant. "Pick whichever you'd like to eat at. My treat, of course. God, you've only grown more beautiful with time..."
Sighing softly, Risha picked up her cellphone when they got home, dialing the number she found for Gabriel Dante's law practice that she found in the phonebook. She left a message on his private extension, knowing only he would get it, sounding a bit hesitant. "Hey, uhm...aha," She laughed, nervously, sounding a bit strained, "It's Risha. I...well, I kept thinking about you, and...oh, this is ridiculous, and I sound stupid. Uhm, could we meet? For coffee, or lunch, or something? I'd just...I'd really like to see you." She finally admitted, obviously nervous about the call, "Maybe...Luici's, at noon tomorrow? If that's alright, just...text me yes or no. Thanks..."
